--------------------------------------------------------------------- 08/2000 1st Announcement for the AMORE Research Seminar on Railway Optimization Problems Konstanz, Germany, October 16 - 20, 2000 http://www.informatik.uni-konstanz.de/algo/amore/ResSemOct2000.html --------------------------------------------------------------------- The EU-funded Research Training Network "Algorithmic Methods for Optimizing the Railways in Europe" (AMORE) is organizing a research seminar on railway optimization problems. It is mainly addressed to researchers on a pre- or post-doctoral level. Interested individuals from outside the AMORE network are explicitly encouraged to participate. FORMAT AND TOPICS There will be lectures introducing the participants to known problems and existing solutions in railway optimization. Problems include line planning, time table generation, and shunting, and an emphasis in solution methods will be on shortest paths. The following speakers have already agreed to give presentations: Leo Kroon (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) Alberto Marchetti-Spaccamela (Rome, Italy) Rolf H. Moehring (Berlin, Germany) Dorothea Wagner (Konstanz, Germany) Christos Zaroliagis (Patras, Greece) Uwe Zimmermann (Braunschweig, Germany) Besides the lectures, there will be time for discussions and joint work. TIME AND PLACE The seminar will take place in Waldhaus Jakob, Konstanz, Germany, which is a nice conference site directly on Lake Constance (Bodensee), in Southern Germany, very close to the Swiss border. Arrival of the participants is planned for Monday evening, October 16, and departure is planned for Friday afternoon, October 20. REGISTRATION The registration fee of 550 DM (approximately 275 Euro) covers the lectures, accommodation, meals, and social events. To register, please fill out the registration form on the indicated WWW site before Sunday, September 17, 2000. Besides your name, address, and other practical information, you are asked to provide a short CV indicating your academic stage and background. Attendance is limited to about 35 people.
